Detectives are appealing for witnesses and information following an assault involving a noxious substance in Thornton Heath.

A teenage girl and a 60-year-old woman suffered facial injuries after  the  substance was thrown in their face from a passing van.

Police were called at 11.44 am on Monday April 8, to reports of an assault on County Road at the junction with Norbury Avenue.

Both victims were  taken to a south London hospital for treatment to their injuries. They have since been discharged.

Jon Ellacott, who lives close to where the shocking attack happened, saw the emergency services arrive at the scene.

He told the Standard: “All we know is that a noxious substance was thrown from a van at a woman with her children, walking down the road.

“The first we knew about it was when the fire brigade, police and paramedics turned up.”

Detectives from the South Area Command Unit based in Bromley are investigating. They would like to speak with anyone who was in the area at the time of the assaults, or who may have captured the suspects on dash cam.

Anyone with information is asked to contact officers via 101 quoting reference 2677/8Apr.
