Thanks to the efforts of local volunteers and businesses the new look planting at The Pond has continued to flourish despite the long hot summer.

It’s mainly down to a handful of Thornton Heath Communtiy Action Team members who have dedicated their time to watering and weeding the flowers and planters around The Pond.

Two more planters with a large wooden clock will be added during September. The funding for this project has come from councillor Stuart King and Groundworks London. The Groundworks funding is based on the work for the ‘Our Green Mile’ project led by Malcolm Bell.

However, watering has been a major issue and without the generous support of local businesses including Peasley butchers, Tandoori Corner and Daily Fresh Food Halal Meat, The Pond wouldn’t look as lovely as it does.

The Pond group have now met with the Director of Streets, Steve Iles and Cllr King to plan how to access the water supply at The Pond.  This will greatly help with the watering of The Pond in the future making it a beautiful feature to be proud of by the community, said project co-ordinator Pete Lawrence.
