The vision of a nature space at the northern most tip of Thornton Heath is a step close

A project to run conservation and urban gardening workshops to develop the existing wildlife habitats are now well underway. In future the plan is to also build an outdoor classroom space.

The green site based at the junction of Manor Farm Road and Norbury Avenue features an air raid shelter and Norbury Brook runs right through the site. The space is also home to bats, moorhens and of course foxes.

Pupils from Norbury Manor Business and Enterprise College kick started the initiative in a bid to stop it being a home for fly tipping and anti-social behaviour.

This month an open day was held to engage even more local people in the project by members of Manor Farm Nature Space – the community group looking after the space.

The group are delighted with the progress of the site, with ongoing support from London Wildlife Trust and Thames 21 in the pipeline to ensure the Brook is kept clean enough to support wildlife.
