A new pizza restaurant opening on MONDAY could mark the start of a resurgence in fortunes for Brigstock Road.

The Fireaway pizza eatery which is in the former Brigstock Cafe, at 37 Brigstock Road, will open on Monday with a offer of £5 for any pizza for the first 72 hours said owner Mario Murphy.

He opened his first Fireaway in Sutton 23 months ago with the aim of bringing an authentic Italian pizza recipe from his hometown in Naples to the UK.

He said: “I also thought the Subway set up was good so I decided on mixing the two  and letting people design their own pizzas.”

Customers can choose from 25 unlimited toppings, four different bases and four different cheeses which is then fast fired in a 400 degree oven in about 150 seconds.

Mario added: “The first shop in Sutton went very well and after a few months a customer who liked the idea set up one in Streatham with his two sons. Both are relatively small shops with six stools but focusing mainly on home delivery.

“The Thornton Heath shop is much bigger so we are trying to go for a sit down venue with about 24 seats.”

Mario has also submitted a licensing application to Croydon Council in the hopes that Fireaway will be able
