Tributes were paid today to a mother-of-two stabbed to death yards from her family home.

Hospital worker Emma Day (pictured) was pronounced dead at the scene following the daylight attack in Elyewood Road, West Norwood,  which took place days after her 33rd birthday.

Ms Day, a former pupil of Sydenham  School who worked as a ward clerk at King’s College Hospital, was attacked just after 7pm on Thursday near the home in Benton’s Lane, where she lived with her two young children.

A post-mortem carried out on Friday gave the provisional cause of death as a stab wound to the heart.

Tributes to the young mother have poured in on social media, and flowers have been laid at the scene.

Mark Morris, 39, from Cranbrook Road, Thornton Heath, was charged on Saturday, (May 27) with the murder and appeared at Camberwell Magistrates’ court on Monday.

Morris will appear for trial at the Old Bailey on November 20.
