The ladies Streatham-Croydon Rugby Football Club development team continues to grow with two successful fixtures in the last month under the leadership of captain Rosie Carr.

Their first game saw them taking on a very experienced Hammersmith and Fulham 2nd team, writes Millie Ross.

In her return from a maternity break, winger Erin Fairley scored early points for Streatham, but they weren’t able to hold the lead against a more organised outfit.

In their second fixture of the month they took on Oxford University Panthers and after trailing 10-0 at half time, saw a resurgence of organisation in the second half and after a 70 metre  try by winger Rain Robinson they won the game 19-10.

In the Ladies only 1st team League fixture of the month they took on local rivals Battersea Ironsides, and after a tightly wrestled game missed out on the win with a final score of 14-12.  The ladies 1st XV have had some success in the Surrey Cup, travelling to Wimbledon RFC, whose ladies team are a league above in Championship 2.

With dominance in the set piece, combined with the kicking strength of centre Jenny Frost and the finishing ability of Phili May, the game concluded 21-12 to Streatham.

Last month saw a brilliant Inner Warrior session for the  junior girls wanting to get a taste of the sport. With a change in the leadership of the Junior Girls section, new coach Catherine Kingston led a fantastic introduction to rugby, despite the battle against the elements.

Welcoming England Red Rose Marlie Packer and her Saracens team mate Hannah Duffy, the ladies hosted a Q&A in the clubhouse (pictured above) with some fun drills under the leadership of the coaching team. SCRFC girls are now recruiting, ages 5-17 with zero experience required! If you are interested contact Catherine at

The men’s teams continue to have mixed success this season. The 1st team had a strong start in their home fixture against Old Rutlishians.

After a first half collapse, the boys rallied and managed to get three tries back in the second half thanks to Dan Witter and winger Vinny.

Unfortunately the comeback wasn’t enough but it was great to see two of the players coming through the Juniors to get their first caps for the first team. They also travelled to Old Blues RFC, who sit third in the league. They weren’t able to get any points in a 23-0 game, but there were many good things to build on.

In their home fixture against Metropolitan Police RFC, Streatham demonstrated their strengths but weren’t able to finish all their opportunities.

The second team have had some good wins, including recent strong scores against local team Mitcham RFC and a Battersea Ironsides team.
