AFC Croydon Athletic finished strongly with their best season yet with a 3-3 draw at Lordswoodconfirming a seventh place finish in the league.

This represents the best finish for the club since it formed in 2012 and tops off a good first season for Manager Kevin Rayner.

Leading goalscorer, Warren Mfula, added to his tally in each of the last two games to bring his total to 45 goals in 42 games – in all competitions.

He was, however, caught by his nearest rival Shaun Welford from league champions Ashford United who will share the accolade at a presentation at the league annual general meeting in June.

At the Club’s annual presentation evening Warren Mfula picked up most of the playing awards adding the Supporters’ Player and Players’ Player of the Year award to the top goal scorer award.

However, the Manager’s Player of the Year went to midfielder and Club Captain Morgan Jenden who had a good season in the middle of the park and was an influential leader to the team.

There were also awards for those working behind the scenes. The Clubman of the Year was presented to the Goalkeeping Coach, Garry Henry while the long serving Club Physio, Denis Lawton, picked up the special award for meritorious service.

Speaking at the Presentation Awards Chairman Paul Smith expressed his thanks to players, management, officials and supporters alike.

He particularly thanked Rayner who had to rebuild the team for the start of the season and has laid some excellent foundations for the future.

The team will now have a rest but will be back training in the middle of June ready for their first game of the season on August 5 which will be in the FA Cup.
