The end of April marked the end of the Minis and Juniors season at Streatham Croydon Rugby Football Club and in keeping with tradition, a combined awards and BBQ celebration was held.
Squads across all age groups performed well at the various end of season festivals and the club is proud of their achievement, writes Millie Ross.
All players received an end of season medal for their hard work and dedication.
Thankfully the weather held up and the BBQ arranged by parents was well attended.
The Christopher McCarthy Award – awarded to the player at the end of the season who most typifies Rugby’s core values of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship on and off the pitch was won by: Nathan Addy-Walker.
Aside from the trophies and medals, special mentions were given to the 10 players who this season have made it into the County and Club development programmes and played representative rugby.
The Minis and Juniors return for the 2019/20 season on the September 8 and will be recruiting both boys and girls.
The men’s 1st XV unfortunately had many bumps in the road this season and will therefore be relegated to Surrey 3 next season.
They are currently in a recruitment phase and will be looking to bring in new players in pre-season in July.
The ladies 1st XV finished fourth in their league so will again be playing in National Challenge 1 London & South East next season.
The senior sides have also both recently been on tour, with the men travelling to Normandy over the Easter Weekend and the ladies travelling to Glasgow over the first May Bank Holiday. There are also plans for Sevens tournaments over the course of the summer.
Streatham-Croydon will be hosting their own Carnival 7s tournament on Saturday June 8 and are still welcoming team entries for £150 a team.
