Work has begun on creating a network of street campaigners to work together to make their areas safer, cleaner and greener.

The Thornton Heath Community Action Team was successful in a bid for £26,028 for the two year street improvement project which is being funded by the People’s Health Trust.

The Street Action project will focus on developing street teams of residents in 20 specified roads in Thornton Heath and has already identified the first phase which will focus on 10 streets.

The streets are: Bensham Manor Road Boswell Road, Brook Road, Cotford Road, Crowland Road, Gillett Road, Kynaston Avenue, Lucerne Road, Quadrant Road and possibly Melfort Road.

Local residents have started planning actions to get to know more neighbours and  drive change in their streets.  They have been out and about finding other residents keen to get involved and looking at their streets through fresh eyes,  as well as considering priorities for improvement and possible solutions such as using street art  and planting to enhance neglected spaces.

THCAT committee members are providing contact lists to enable residents to start by reporting a host of problems such as: fly tips and graffiti.

If you live in one of these roads and would like to commit to getting involved, attending regular meetings, or just to help out occasionally email:
