Local MP Steve Reed has asked for the  Fauvrelle family to be given space while they grieve and make funeral arrangements for Kelly and baby Riley.

The north Croydon MP issued the  appeal on Twitter saying the intense media intrusion was adding to their distress. The Labour MP,  recently appointed shadow minister for children and families, also pleaded with Theresa May over what she is going to do about “the terrifying increase in the use of knives on our street.”

In the  House of Commons last week  Labour MP Mr Reed said: “The police now believe this may have been a random attack by someone unknown to the family.

“ If the Government has been acting on knife crime, it isn’t working.

“So what further action will the Prime Minister now take to stop the terrifying increase in the use of knives in our streets?”

Mrs May said “we were all shocked” at the death of the young mum.

She affirmed: “We are taking action in the number of ways. We will continue to work and work with the Mayor of London on the actions that can be taken across London on this issue, but this is something that requires a multi-faceted approach. It’s about the whole of society.”

Tweeting after PMQ’s, Mr Reed said the country needed “action on knife crime, not more hollow words”.

Back in 2017 both Mr Reed and Croydon Central MP Sarah Jones in the wake of a series of stabbings wrote to then Home Secretary Amber Rudd demanding steps to boost Croydon’s resources in the fight against knife crime.

Then last year Mr Reed wrote to the current Home Secretary Sajid Javid, to call for more to be done to tackle the “rapid escalation” in knife crime after he saw the viral Zombie knife attack video featuring Joshua Gardener on London Road.

Meanwhile local councillor for West Thornton Stuart King, met with the Neighbourhood Watch coordinator for Raymead Avenue to discuss   the concerns and  feeling of residents and said there was ongoing ‘sense of shock and bewilderment’, but also a desire to see the police given the time, resources and support to achieve a successful outcome.

He said: “The council is working closely in support of the police investigation and, importantly, offering direct support and assistance to Ms Fauvrelle’s family”.

Cabinet member for safety Hamidi Ali said the whole country hd been affected by this  tragedy and it was ‘hard to get your head around what the family must be going through’ and paid tribute to the first responders adding: “I don’t have words to capture the gravity of what has happened.”
