Goosebumps, sweaty palms….  be prepared to be scared at an outdoor cinema screening of the cult horror classic American Werewolf in London.

The Friends of Grangewood are thrilled to present Thornton Heath’s first outdoor cinema event in the park which should provide the perfect backdrop for  a horror film!

The outdoor movie screening powered by Electric Pedals is set to guarantee a unique cinematic experience and  it’s free to come along.

The film, which is an 18, will be screened on Sunday 21, from 9.45pm.

Thousands of people engaged with an on-line poll and chose American Werewolf in London from a list of 25 London centric films closely followed by Mary Poppins.

The cult movie filmed in London in 1981 has also been described as horror comedy and  tells the story of two American students who are attacked by a werewolf while on holiday in England.

Called the Purple Hairstreak Film Night,  the Grangewood event takes its name from the butterfly prevalent amongst the canopies of the Oak trees in July evenings.

The  film night is being funded by the London Mayor Sadiq Khan, as part of the London National Park City Festival, which runs from 20-28 July marking London becoming a National Park City.

It will  celebrate London’s outdoor spaces involving a range of activities, from culture and fitness to wildlife and the environment.

The Grangewood event  will also follow a conservation theme with a guided walk prior to the film screening

The Friends of Grangewood organise a number of events throughout the year and July also sees the return of the Picnic in the Park on Sunday 14th.

All the old favourites will return with the Bake Off and annual Dog Show along with loads of activities and family fun.
