The outdoor cinema night in Grangewood Park has been rescheduled to take place on Friday September 20 at 7.45pm and will see the screening of the popular film: The Greatest Showman.

Following a fresh poll the musical the family friendly PG  featuring Hugh Jackman was chosen as a replacement.

The original July screening of An American Werewolf in London had to be cancelled.

The event organised by the Friends of Grangewood Park was originally part of the London National Park City Festival. The London Mayor was the main funder along with ward budget support from Thornton Heath ward councillors Karen Jewitt and Pat Clouder and Thornton Heath Community Action Team.

The outdoor movie screening will be powered by Electric Pedals and so filmgoers need to be ready to volunteer to pedal as the energy generated from members of the audience cycling together on bicycle generators is combined and used to power a projector, speaker, mixer and DVD player.

There is also a fantastic opportunity or a local film maker or group of film makers or students studying film to put together a short film which will be screened before the main attraction. If you have ideally a short film which tells a local story get in touch with: friendsofgrangewood@yahoo.co.uk

While the event is FREE it is ticket only as the council licence restricts attendance to 499.

Andrea Perry, Chair of the FoGP said: “We are really excited to be able to put on Thornton Heath’s first outdoor cinema in our wonderful park. The wood provides the perfect backdrop for watching a movie in the company of friends and family.

“It has been quite a complicated and costly process and we were really disappointed to have had to cancel the July event. We hope people appreciate that we have to restrict numbers. Those with tickets please come along and enjoy your evening. If it is a success we will look at whether we can attract funding to put on future screenings.

“We are really grateful to the funders who made this all possible.”

Those attending are being encouraged to bring along a picnic and blankets to sit on, take away litter and when leaving keep the noise down as it is a residential area.  BBQs aren’t allowed in the park.
