The controlled drinking zones are to be scrapped in Thornton Heath with plans for a more affective protective order tackling all anti social behaviour which could result in offenders being issued with £80 on the spot fines.
The Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) covers all areas of Anti-Social Behaviour. The council is presently consulting with the public on the introduction of a PSPO in Croydon town centre and is set to consider Thornton Heath next because of public pressure.
The police have said it is important that residents report anti social behaviour so they can build up a log of the problems as evidence to support the PSPO.
The key will be enforcement. The CDZ has done little to decrease street drinking. Our pictures shows the blatent abuse of the CDZ on Ambassador House where street drinking on an early CPFC match day went unchallenged by police.
