This beautiful mural could soon adorn a scruffy flank wall at the refugee hostel on Brigstock Road. It’s part of a bigger art project to transform the dingy building.

The Rise Gallery is forging ahead with plans for murals to brighten up  the refugee hostel on Brigstock Road.

The project  which has funding from Bensham Manor councillor Alison Butler’s community ward budget spend of £4,000 is also pursuing additional grants from the Arts Council.

Artists have already been chosen to work on a series of murals at the front, side and and rear of the premises.

Mural artists Roo and Skyhigh are planning an ‘English wildlife’ theme focussing on the nature and weather (pictured here BEFORE and what it would look like AFTER).

The Nomad Clan collective, have chosen to feature a tree house to signify a safe space and their design will also include migrating birds from countries where large numbers of refugees come from.

Street artist Sam Collins has chosen butterflies to signify new life, beginnings and positive change. Mural artist Samer also features strong themes of nature.
