Artist Mat Pringle has finished the latest brightly coloured mural to adorn Thornton Heath High Street.

The art work part of the regeneration scheme features on the flank wall of what was Fast Eddys cafe and is now called Godwins which has also undergone shopfront improvements.

The mural, promoting all Thornton Heath’s great hidden nature and green spaces, includes an image of CPFCs famous Eagle mascot Kayla and Grangewood Park’s white squirrel Walter.

Mat, who has lived in and around Thornton Heath all of his life, has been in his studio for the last two weeks working on the panel for his mural working alongside artist and mural specialist Matthew Timmins- Williams.

The marine plywood comes in sheets 4’ x 8’ so carrying them up two flights of stairs was a “beast”, said Mat.

He added: “We’ve been working twelve hour days to get them finished as quickly possible and I’m currently at the varnishing stage. In theory the more coats I apply the longer the panels will last.”

The six  panels have been installed in time for the Thornton Heath Festival.

Mat said: “I hope local residents will enjoy looking at them as much as I have enjoyed making them.”
