Local artists, designers and makers are opening the doors to their studios this September to show off their skills at an exciting new creative hub.

Art House Croydon opened in 2018 and is owned by Artists Studio Company (ASC), one of the UK’s largest charities providing workspace to artists and makers.

Comprising of 104 brand new purpose built art studios, the building houses a plethora of creative disciplines including painting, sculpture, print making, knitwear design, photography, upholstery, embroidery, ceramics, filmmaking and many more.

The 50 plus  participating creatives, most local, will be in their studios available to discuss their practice and show their wares. This is also a great opportunity to buy work directly from the studios.

Textile designer  Samantha Warren from Thornton Heath, initiated the open day and designs accessories which are inspired by nature. She combines her fresh use of colour with elegant designs to create stylish and practical accessories which have been stocked in fashion retailers and prestigious art and design establishments including The British Museum, The Royal Academy of Art and The Fashion and Textile Museum.

Another Thornton Heath artist Jo Bee is a creative knitwear designer, with over a decade’s worth of industry experience and  previously worked for fashion house Julien MacDonald as sole knitwear designer for five years, working on one-off pieces for the catwalk celebrities and private clients.

She now freelances for various high-end design houses and is in the process of setting up her own knitwear line .

There will be an opening night event on Friday September 13 with food and drinks from 6pm to 9pm and the event continues on Saturday 14: 12-5pm at the  ASC Art House, Grafton Quarter, Grafton Road,  CR0 3RP.
