Cook Like a Pro is a ten week cooking programme which aims to educate young people around the nutritional value of a home cooked meal, how simplistic it is to cook from scratch and how affordable it actually can be.

The project which is supported by top chef Jamie Oliver  teaches 10 different recipes from home cook favourites like fajitas to chicken tikka masala and everything in-between.

The course  which is being run by the Palace for Life Foundation, as part of its Healthy Eagles initiative, gets participants to taste new ingredients and whatever they cook it is there’s to enjoy!

The cooking programme at the Salvation Army on Thornton Heath High Street  is for ages  eight to 14 year old’s and started on January 11 with 14 young people attending and  16 on the register.

Community Development Officer Jamie Broughton said: “We have more than we would usually take, but the response has been amazing. Young people have come through the local area, previous programmes like the summer programme and partner networks like the Salvation Army.

“The response previously from the previous course we ran is they all loved it, beaming with pride when the parents came to collect them at the end of the sessions to show them what they’ve made. ”
