A new club is inspiring women to improve physical and mental wellbeing and become happier and healthier through running.

This Mum Runs has partnered with Croydon SocialP, to create an innovative new social prescribing programme in Croydon.

This Mum Runs, which sees thousands of participants running every week,  enables mums to make time for themselves  and make friends at a time when significant changes in their lives are happening.

The  free weekly social runs are at Streatham and Croydon Rugby Club, on 159 Brigstock Road every Wednesday at 7.30pm.

The 46 GP surgeries in Croydon have joined the scheme with NHS professionals signposting and educating mums about This Mum Runs during appointments at surgeries.

Caroline Singende who was referred in a bid to reduce blood pressure and improve energy levels said:  “I am not a runner at all – usually not my thing. I didn’t think I could do it but I managed to keep up. The mum’s were so encouraging, supportive and sociable. It was a fantastic experience.”

The programme is free to join and you don’t have to be fit or even a mum to be able to run  in order to participate.

Pace is not important and all fitness levels can take part. A launch event for the first 30 minute run  was held earlier this month.

Run Angels’ – women who volunteer to lead run sessions –  pace the runs, that operate on a loop-basis to ensure no one is left behind or feel under pressure to run quickly, keep up, or not walk.

The programme will be active in 2019 and it is hoped that hundreds of local mums will be encouraged to join the This Mum Runs community in Croydon helping to transform their lives.

Mel Bound, founder of This Mum Runs, said: “Our vision is to empower mums everywhere to be healthier and happier. “We are excited to become delivery partners on such an innovative project that will enable us to support mums in Croydon to be more active”.
