The popular Thornton Heath in Bloom returns for a fourth year with even more categories to enter to help beautify local streets with colourful flowers.

The in Bloom competition which is organised by Thornton Heath Community Action Team (THCAT) is part of July’s Thornton Heath Arts Week.

Even if your front garden is mostly concrete you can still join in planting in tubs, window boxes, hanging baskets or by lifting up a few paving slabs.

Alternatively how about disguising dust bins under a shelter with plants on top, like one of last year’s winners did?

This year prizes will be awarded for the top three entries in each given category.

The categories are: business and organisations (which includes pubs, shops, school, churches, and offices); front gardens; concrete front spaces; THCAT wooden street planters (often called Pete’s Planters) and children’s plants or vegetables.

Entry forms are available on as well as at the local library and Costa. The closing date is Wednesday July 4 and the prize-giving ceremony, to which all entrants are invited, will take place on Wednesday July 17 at 7pm.
