A 13-year-old girl was dragged along the street and sexually assaulted as she walked to school.

Detectives have issued an image of the suspect, who was seen on CCTV as he bent down. He is pictured with a rucksack on his back and wearing a black puffer-style jacket, grey trousers and black shoes.

At 12.30am on November 22, police received a report of a 13-year-old girl having been approached by a man at 6.48am on November 21.

 The suspect grabbed the victim as she walked along Norfolk Road at the junction with Heath Road. He then dragged her along the road, and sexually assaulted her before she managed to break free and  escape.

PUPILS TOLD NOT TO WALK TO SCHOOL ALONE

The suspect is described as a black male, 5ft 6ins tall, with hair in cornrows. 

Officers from the serious sexual assault investigation unit Sapphire leafleted houses near to the attack appealing for witnesses just before Christmas.

Detective Constable Penelope Rea said: “I am very keen to hear from anyone who can identify the male in the picture. If you think you have seen this male or know who he is please get in touch.

“Your call could remove a criminal from your area or you could help eliminate someone from our enquiries.”

The child continues to be supported by specially trained officers.
