A social enterprise is helping young girls aged 12 to 21 to boost their esteem so they can thrive, grow and inspire others in today’s society.

Young Girls Thrive based in Thornton Heath was founded by Sherisha Haynes alongside Managing Director Makeda Nation.

The dynamic duo, who have worked in education for over 15 years combined, saw that young girls in the area didn’t have an outlet that supported and helped them to develop skills, empower their mindset and give them the chance to experience new opportunities.

They said: “The culture of today’s society is vastly changing, with the pressures of social media, higher educational fees, and unemployment, our young women are being socially and economically squeezed.

“We believe the old motto of ‘give someone a fish, and you feed them for the day; show them how to catch fish, and you feed them for a lifetime.’”S

Young Girls Thrive runs various activities and workshops, ranging from: drama, dance, creative writing, self-esteem and confidence building.

Also with career and industry talks, trips and a Big Sister, Lil Sister mentoring programme.

Sessions are held every Tuesday 6.30 to 8.30PM at St Pauls Church, St Pauls Road, for ages 12 to 15 and there are other opportunities available for ages 16 to 21.

All staff hold qualifications in youth work, safe guarding and first aid and are DBS checked.

There is a registration fee and each session is £4.
