In the next month work will start on a series of murals to transform Brigstock House refugees centre so it is no longer a local eyesore but also offers a better welcome for asylum seekers and their families.

The murals were held up because of the cost of arranging scaffolding but should start in three to four weeks with local people encouraged to get involved in helping out with preparing and painting the ground level areas.

Artists and designs for the murals at the front, side and and rear of the premises have been commissioned by the Rise Gallery. The project has funding from Bensham Manor councillor Alison Butler’s community ward budget and additional grants from the Arts Council.

The artists are: London based Roo and Skyhigh, Nomad Clan from Manchester, Samer from South London and  Sam Collins, Rochester, Kent. The designs feature a range of wildlife including foxes, butterflies and birds.
