Thornton Heath Community Action Team will have an interactive map on their stall at Sunday’s Thornton Heath Festival – where residents can come and share their views and desires to reimagine the main gateway into Thornton Heath – covering Ambassador House, Tesco and Iceland.

This will form the brief for a student architectural competition to reimagine the area with a prize of £2,500 for the best design as part of a plan to kickstart interest in redeveloping the area. Judges will be announced shortly.

THCAT is looking at setting up a Community Trust, which is an independent non-profit-making body representing an area of public concern, as happened in rejuvenating areas of Brixton and Stockwell.

It is also working with Croydon Voluntary Action on a proposal for a Growth Bid for a community hub providing a venue for  local groups and creatives to meet. This will be discussed at the next THCAT meeting  on Tuesday (Sept 11) at St Andrews Church, Quadrant Road; 7-8.30pm.
