Emergency services responding to fears about the welfare of a man had to give him medical treatment after he sustained injuries in a fall.
The London Air Ambulance was dispatched landing in a school playground after the five hour drama unfolded at nearby address in Thornton Heath.
It appears there was a stand off as London Ambulance staff who were first on scene followed by the Fire Brigade and police tried to engage with the man.
He was taken to a major trauma unit “after he fell from height” but his injuries are “not thought to be life threatening,” said a police spokesman.
The incident began at at 8.20am when LAS were called to reports of an incident at a residential address in Kitchener Road.
Police arrived at 8.42am following “concerns for the welfare of a man inside a residential address” said a spokesman and officers had “engaged with the man.”
The incident is not being treated as suspicious but a police spokesman added: “as is routine, the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards have been informed.”
The helicopter circled over houses at 1.30pm as it dramatically descended landing at Beulah Infant and Nursery School.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We treated a person and took them to a major trauma centre.
“We sent a number of resources to the scene including two ambulance crews, an incident response officer, a medic in a car and London’s Air Ambulance.”
The Air Ambulance departed around 20 minutes later watched by school children and captured in this video.
