An ambitious project is aiming to green-up London Road and transform it in to the Green Mile.

The idea behind the project is to connect The Pond to the West Croydon Energy Garden, a distance of 1.2 miles along the London Road, hence the name.

A group of people from Thornton Heath Community Action Team, Broad Green Residents Association (BGRA), and West Croydon Energy Garden, walked the mile and have identified places where either planters can be fixed, or green areas cleaned up and replanted.

The first planters and the opening of the Green Mile will happen in early March, with the date being announced in the next edition of The Chronicle.

A fantastic logo has been designed for the project by Michael To, which will be displayed along the road, identifying it as a place of change, forward thinking and a better cleaner environment.

This will also feeds into The Mayor and Transport for London’s cleaner air campaign. Volunteers are needed to water the planters and green areas, so if you want to be involved, as this project will not happen without your help contact Peter Lawrence of THCAT or Malcolm Bell of BGRA.
