local football coach  is appealing for donations of unwanted football gear so it can be recycled and sent to to Ghana to help hundreds of young people to participate in the sport they love.

Percy Hutchful, from Thornton Heath set up the charity called Let The Kids Play, in 2016, to supply used football kits, boots and footballs to disadvantaged children in Ghana to grow participation and social inclusion.

The idea was inspired by the number of football boots Percy used to see abandoned in Battersea Park.

Percy,  who is a qualified FA Level 2 football coach with module 1 and 2 youth awards; also has awards in coaching Futsal, deaf, disabled and blind football.

He said: “Approximately two million pairs of shoes are thrown away in the UK every year and I am using this

opportunity to aid children from Ghana to participate in a sport they love.”

In April this year Percy handed over 100 pairs of donated boots and kits to a team in Ghana called Peace United following a tournament and workshops.

Percy first coached the team while holidaying there over three years ago.

He added: “I would now like to appeal to the local community to send in any old boots, kits, footballs and shin pads.”
