There has been a massive fall in fly tipping in Thornton Heath after a united effort by the community and council.

In June  and July there were 776 reported fly tips in the Thornton Heath area. After the council and the Thornton Heath Community Action Team began working together with the delivery of a specific Don’t Mess with Thornton Heath leaflet which was distributed door to door figures for November and December have revealed a dramatic drop to 432; equivalent to a 44 per cent fall.

This also coincided with enforcement teams carrying out surveillance operation with some 32 people facing prosecution and further investigations from that operation still underway.

This month the names of the 17 most recent offenders were released and included Thornton Heath residents.

The council has now successfully prosecuted a total of 188 offenders under its Don’t Mess With Croydon clampdown after the latest court cases.

Here are the four among the 17  from Thornton Heath fined by Croydon Magistrates’ Court during last three months.

  • In November Andrei Titan, of Grove Road, was ordered to pay a total of £664 for fly-tipping black bag waste on a footpath off Sycamore Way on 7 March 2017. This case was heard on 7 November at Croydon Magistrates’ Court.
  • In December Toader Fodor, of Dovercourt Avenue,  was ordered to pay a total of £439.50 for littering a bag of beer cans on the pavement in Colliers Water Lane on 17 June 2017.
  • In the same month Daniel Johnson, of Stonebridge Lodge in Brigstock Road, who was ordered to pay a total of £439.50 for fly-tipping black bag waste in Brigstock Road on 11 June 2017.
  • Jerzy Karpinski, of Raymead Avenue iwas ordered to pay a total of £439.50 for dropping a cigarette in Colliers Water Lane on 17 June 2016.
