Some old favourites coupled with a host of new and up-and-coming artists is set to getting Thornton Heath dancing at this weekend’s annual festival.

Thornton Heath Festival aims to deliver good stage entertainment alongside a funfair, a good mix of stalls offering food and refreshments and this year will be no different and should be ‘even better’  promises festival Vice Chairman, Callton Young, a Thornton Heath councillor.

Soca sensation, One The Band, will headline the festival on Sunday (Sept 8) and back by popular demand for her second year will is Frederica Tibbs, who has sung with international reggae giant Gregory Issacs.

Cllr Young said: “Thornton Heath Festival aka ‘Thornton Heath Carnival‘ is an awesome spectacle of sound, colour, dance and food. It is not to be missed’. The Festival has been safely under good management for over a decade. It has something for everyone regardless of age, gender or ethnic background.’

Newcomers to this year’s festival include Cassandra London, Stxkz, Chelsey Shannon Brown, Stunflower, and Singology whose founder is linked to the world famous Kingdom Choir that sang at last year’s  Royal wedding.

Singology was originally established as a vocal coaching company by Mark De-Lisser in 2000 to provide singing opportunities and tuition to people of all ages. The success of this first venture, and Mark’s passion for choir singing, led to the opening of the very first Singology Choir in 2004. Singology Choirs have been spreading across London ever since and there are now nine branches open with a rapidly growing number of members.

Mark’s most notable achievement to date is being asked to compose and arrange Stand By Me for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in 2018 performed by The Kingdom Choir at St George’s Chapel, Windsor.

Cassandra London is an upcoming local singer songwriter with who is fast making her mark on the reggae scene.  She released her debut  EP Too Blessed, in August 2014 at Brixton’s Hootananny which includes Just Cool a song that was self-penned and has since been covered by other singers.

Stxkz is a south London based grime artist with links to Thornton Heath and  went down a storm at neighbouring Norbury Park’s Peace and Love Festival last month with tunes like Play Different, Coma and Lights Off Lights On.

Chelsey Shannon Brown, is a 24-year-old solo singer songwriter who graduated in 2016 from The University Of Kent with a Music degree. She currently has three original singles to her name, including: His Story and Intentions.

Stunflower is a Psychedelic Rock Roots Trio from South London comprising of: Thomas Idasseril (composer, guitars, vocals, loops), Devaki Anne-Marie Thomas (vocals, drums, percussion) and Alex Barrett (bass guitar).

With fabulous songs like Modavader, Washed Away and Turnaround this band promises to bring something extra special to the main stage.

The festival takes place on Thornton Heath High Street and run from noon until 6.30pm. The street will be closed off for the full day, starting from early morning to allow fairground attractions, the stage and stalls to set up.
