Fashion brands are queuing up to get a slice of Thornton Heath.

Mula Cake, one of London’s urban fashion brands has just opened on Brigstock Parade and Fashion Meets Music, which aims to give upcoming designers, entrepreneurs and artists a place to be seen and heard, is set to open on the High Street.

It’s hoped that the opening of two trendy clothing shops in Thornton Heath will signal a reverse of fortunes for Thornton Heath’s shopping district  which has seen dozens of shops fall empty since the start of the regeneration, including The Thomas Farley and HSBC with Barclays Bank and Flora Sandes set to join the ranks of closures in the next few months.

Fashion Meets Music says on its Facebook page it is on a mission to bridge the gap between the Indie and mainstream worlds and provide opportunity for previously unrecognised talent. It already operates a shop in Camden market. The council believes the venture,  which is likely to open before Christmas provides choice for local young people.

The council has completed a review of the empty shops and created a database which it is able to use to marry up vacant premises with potential retailers. A three tier incentive package is also being offered with relief on business and rates along with a support package giving access to  enterprise grants of up to £50,000.

The Chronicle understands there is also interest from a book shop, vintage clothing retailer and upmarket green grocers. More shops are likely to be reactivated over the next few months.

*Over the past year Mula Cake clothing has gone from strength to strength, celebrating its fourth year anniversary in June with a host of activities, food and family fun, along with the announcement of the opening of its first official flagship shop in Thornton Heath, at No 7 Brigstock Parade.
