A tailors has marked its year anniversary in Thornton Heath by closing.

LovEssy Fashion Studio, run by Kofi Antwi and his wife Love Essinam, opened on the troubled Ambassador House forecourt, on Brigstock Road, in  November 2018.

The shop offered a range of handmade women’s and men’s clothing specialising in making colourful and vibrant clothes and opened in the former Elysium hair salon next to long established Parthenon Fashions which also closed this year after 50 years on the forecourt.

Thornton Heath councillor Callton Young Tweeted on its opening: “Supporting small local shops while High Street retailing faces difficult trading conditions is so important. I was therefore pleased to hear Thornton Heath’s bespoke tailor, Lovessy, feeling upbeat about support for this startup business at the base of Ambassador House #shoplocal”

However the shop was unable to weather the curse of Ambassador House. Wetherspoons closed the previous summer and the office building was squatted last Winter.

The Chronicle understands that the lack of footfall coupled with the expense of operating out of such large premises drove the decision.

The Antwi’s, set up the clothing brand at their home in East Croydon, in 2015 with the aim of producing handmade designs reflecting the “latest trends and cultures”.

Mr Antwi said: “We are planning to relocate and planning business restructuring. Hopefully we should be back on the High Street by end of next year.”

The shop is once again  up for let at a rent of £22,500.
