Weapons, drugs and money were seized by police during a raid in Woodville Road, Thornton Heath today (Thurs).

Soon after on Green Lane, Thornton Heath, police seized another deadly weapon – a knife – possessed by a teenager.

Police officers from the Gangs Unit with the Crime Squad and local police team carried out the work and evidence has also been recovered to enable prosecution of suspects who were charged with criminal offences, though they cannot be named at this stage for legal reasons.

The operation happened ahead of a public meeting called by the borough commander Chief Supt Dave Stringer in Thornton Heath to discuss knife crime and violent crime.

In August 2017 Jermaine Goupall 15, and his friends were chased on Green Lane by a group wearing balaclavas and armed with knives and a machete who wrongly believed he was a rival gang member.

The attackers caught up with the teenager and stabbed him in the thigh in Georgia Road, and he was pronounced dead at the scene of the attack

Residents have been complaining about anti social behaviour including drug dealing on Woodville Road for many months.

A police spokesman said: “Importantly all these seizures of weapons have come about from information and support received from ordinary members of the public who are coming forwards and helping their communities combat knife crime by giving knife carriers no where to hide.

“Police are continuing to request information and support from the public to deal with the threat to communities the fear of knife crime generates. Your local police will continue to take seriously and deal robustly any report of criminal gang activity and knife carrying.”

Look out for the plastic cylinder full of arrows under the table on the left at the start of the video, the ‘zombie killer’ knives, ‘card’ knives, and the big samurai swords – any of these, including the many smaller kitchen knives, could severely injure and kill people. With our continuing intelligence led operations in the borough which are often based on information that you – the public – provide to us, we are determined to take these weapons out of people’s hands – and make Croydon and London a safer place.Thank you for your support.
