The wife of a local GP who started making gowns for her husband’s medical practice found such a demand that she had to expand with the help of other volunteers to manufacture the critically needed scrubs.

Corinne Fernandes, wife of
Dr Agnelo Fernandes of Parchmore Medical Centre together with Sarah Hall and Wendy Hall have been busy sewing the scrubs.

Corinne started by just making gowns for staff at Parchmore but soon needed help from Sarah, Wendy and other volunteers, for use in local GP surgeries and those working out of hours.

They were assisted by donations from members of Croydon Jubilee Rotary Club who unable to meet weekly at Croham Hurst Golf Club since lock down, instead donated the equivalent cost of their weekly meals into their our own Covid Fund.

With over £3,000 raised and together with monies from a Rotary District grant they donated £4,900 to good causes including £1,050 to this tremendous project which has enabled over 240 sets of scrubs.

Corinne, Wendy and Sarah are also making masks and donating them to food bank recipients, teachers and other key workers.

Donations have also been made to Nightwatch, who provide nightly food support in central Croydon for the homeless and to Legacy Youth Zone, who are providing food parcels in the West Croydon and Thornton Heath areas.
