Croydon is the best place in London for mums to give birth, a  survey has revealed treating them with ‘dignity and respect’.

The Trust received a score of 9.7 out of 10, fourth highest in the country.

Croydon Health Services also came fourth nationally when allowing women to choose a location for their antenatal appointments and scored higher than many other Trusts in advising mothers of the need for a personal postnatal check-up 6-8 weeks after their child’s birth.

Director of Midwifery at Croydon Health Services NHS Trust, Manjit Roseghini, said:

“Having a baby is a very personal experience for women and their families and we are extremely proud to come top in London for treating our new mums with dignity and respect during this special time. ”

More than 3,700 babies were born last year at Croydon University Hospital or at women’s homes with the support of the Trust’s Crocus Home Birth team.

The Crocus Home Birth team were finalists for the ‘Team of the Year’ at the Royal College of Midwifery Awards 2018. Memuna Sowe, who is the lead midwife for Vulnerable and Marginalised Women at the Rainbow Health Centre, based in Brigstock Road, was named Midwife Of The Year at the British Journal Of Midwifery Practice Awards.

This year another of its midwives Kelly Sawyer  won the  Emma’s Diary ‘Mums’ Midwife of the Year’ for the London region.On March 5, Kelly  will join six other regional winners at a celebratory ceremony where she will receive her award and  find out who is crowned the coveted national winner .
