A man in his 20s is in hospital in a life-threatening condition after a crash in Thornton Heath on Friday night.

Police said at about 9pm a motorcycle with a man on was in collision with a car in Grange Road which has been the scene of a number of serious accidents over the last few years.

The rider, a man aged in his 20s, sustained serious injuries and was taken by London Ambulance Service (LAS) to a south London hospital.

The Metropolitan Police said his condition is described as life-threatening.

The car driver stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries. They were not arrested.

Two residents claimed it took police up to an hour for police to arrive at the scene.

The road has a 20mph speed limit on it but local residents say that the this is routinely ignored by motorists and not enforced.
