A development company set up by the council is planning to redevelop garages behind an existing block of flats.

Brick by Brick, which was set up by Croydon Council  in 2016, has began consulting with residents over the proposals to transform 15 garages  which are in a state of disrepair and green space behind Atlanta Court on Parchmore Road in to 23 one, two and three bedroom properties for council rent.

Atlanta Court is made up of 32 flats which are a mix of leaseholders brought under right to buy and council tenants with the garages rented out by the council to people outside the area.

At a consultation at Parchmore Methodist Church last month residents were shown the plans which would see two four storey and three story buildings replace the garages and a section of green space. In turn the scheme would move car parking spaces, moving around washing line  areas and providing a play area for children along with landscaping around the existing building.

The few residents who attending the consultation were cool about the plans and were more concerned about anti social behaviour, flytipping and the maintenance of the existing building.

The only resident who has so far left a comment said: “I don’t believe homes are needed in this area.  This development, as it has been proposed at present, is poorly planned and not feasible. There are more suitable sites that’s in need of development such as Strand House, Zion Road and Ambassador House, both in Thornton Heath.”

They continued: “The proposed plan is poorly thought-out and will only exacerbate current ongoing issues that haven’t been adequately addressed. On-site residents haven’t been adequately communicated to in writing regarding this development proposal and many are unhappy how this has been handled by those responsible.”

Brick By Brick’s projects offer stylish living with striking interiors and private balconies or garden space but at a cost with many of its apartments marketed for in excess of £300,000. It will be holding a subsequent consultation event in January.
