A former care home was sold to Brick by Brick  to redevelop for housing for £18,797 – well below the market rate.

The land the site of the Cheriton House care home on Chipstead Avenue is being transformed in to24 shared ownership flats and three affordable rented flats.

Croydon Council has sold off property valued at more than £10 million in recent years, including six areas of land sold to developers for just £1 each

Flora Court in Thornton Heath will be marketed later in the Spring and there will be a two month period of exclusivity for Croydon residents 

  • The council is marking 100 years of council homes since the 1919 Housing Act heralded a huge council house building programme across the country, including around 25,000 built in Croydon.
  • As part of the celebration, the council wants people’s stories, films and other memorabilia for an interactive exhibition at the Croydon Clocktower in August. Housing officers and Museum of Croydon staff are also compiling items from photographs to rent books and providing their own stories.
