The community spirit of Thornton Heath is alive and well. Plucky residents of Annsworthy Avenue off Grange Park Road are a perfect example.

They woke up early one Saturday morning and gave their free time to clean up their neighbourhood.

Croydon Council provided the tools and the residents got on with the clean-up.

Veolia then cleared the huge pile of branches, plastics, wooden bed frames as well as an old galvanised water tank. Also five large gas bottles and two car batteries that had to be separately disposed of for safety. The fly-tip was potentially an explosion waiting to happen.

What an inspiration for other residents to do likewise.
