This amazing bespoke cake made by a local baker marked a very special anniversary for biomedical scientist Feroz Maudarbocus, who has worked for the NHS for 30 years.

Feroz from Thornton Heath, based at Croydon University Hospital, was presented with the cake – created by Heidi Thompson owner of Sugar and Spice Bespoke Cakes – to celebrate achieving such a milestone.

Feroz (pictured) began his career in the NHS in 1990 at the Royal London and during his time there was on site for the Paddington disaster in 1999 and the July 7 bombings in 2005. His experiences of working as a team across health care to support the victims stood him in good stead for the current pandemic.

He joined the team at Croydon University hospital in 2009 to progress his career and to be closer to home and his two young sons.

His wife Zeenat, ordered the vanilla sponge with a butter cream layer which she described as tasting ‘absolutely divine’, adding: “He was certainly surprised as he thought we are just having a family Eid gathering and a cake for his mum’s 75th birthday.”
