A London bus driver high on crack cocaine  has been jailed after ploughing into a car carrying a baby before smashing into a depot.

Grandad Anderson Worrell, 62, from Thornton Heath, mistook the accelerator for the break, crashing into the car and swerving off the road – nearly hitting another woman before hitting the building, a court heard.

Worrell has been jailed for 30 months after pleading guilty to  causing serious injury by dangerous driving and two counts of drug driving at Croydon Crown Court on Thursday (July 4).

Worrell, who had smoked the drugs the night before his shift was seen struggling to stay awake at the wheel before the collisions.

He said he used crack as a coping mechanism for his depression and cancer diagnosis.

He also injured 12 passengers in the collision at West Croydon – including a heavily pregnant woman.

The incident involving the 198 bus happened on November 11 last year and was caught on CCTV footage.

Four children were also on the bus during the crash, including a seven-year-old boy who passed out after he smashed his head against a window.

A 15-year-old schoolgirl, who was sat on the top deck,  suffered a broken arm, punctured lung and ruptured liver.

Albert Kittoe, 36, was one of those who survived the terrifying ordeal but said the crash left him riddled with anxiety and still suffers from panic attacks.
