A one-year-old baby was rushed to hospital by air ambulance with life threatening conditions after falling from a second floor window.

Police officers cordoned off the scene of the tragic accident to allow paramedics to work on saving the life of the baby boy.

The air ambulance was scrambled landing in Thornton Heath Rec after the alarm was raised.

Police were called at 9.34 on Wednesday (July 22) after reports that the baby had fallen from the window of a flat in Beulah Road landing on his head.

Witnesses reported encouraging signs that the baby was crying when he was taken away but the infant was described as having a ‘life-threatening condition’, by a police spokesman.

The multi occupancy property (pictured)is made up of privately rented flats. A neighbour said the parents had left the window open while sleeping and the unattended baby must have crawled out.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We dispatched a number of resources including two ambulance crews, a medic in a car and an incident response officer. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

“We treated a patient at the scene and took them to a major trauma centre.”

The Air Ambulance took the child to St George’s hospital.

A police spokesman said: “The incident is not believed to be suspicious.”
