A 15-year-old schoolgirl is recovering in hospital after being stabbed.

Passers comforted the girl who was found with stab injuries until emergency services arrived.

Police haven’t yet released any descriptions of the suspect(s) or possible motive for the attack but are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Police said they were called at 8:50am today (Wed) to reports of a stabbing on Moffat Road, Thornton Heath. Witnesses reported hearing screaming and said the girl was found near the junction with Livingstone Road.

Officers attended along with paramedics from London Ambulance Service. 

The victim, who it is believed was walking to school when she was attacked, was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital. Her condition has been assessed as non-life-threatening, said a police spokesman.

The scene was sealed off while officers went door to door and asked residents to check CCTV.
